However, none of these characters have a greater bond with it than June Morrissey, who intelligibly dislikes the domestic lifestyle. In a specific incident, the other children were attempting to hang June purify playing with rope and Marie immediately ran! to the scene and punished the culprits. In spite of this compassionate act, June is defeated, saying, “’You ruined it…I was supposed to be hanged’” and even going as far as accomplishment Marie a “’damn old bitch’” (90). Her willingness to die displays that notwithstanding the maternal love she is receiving from Marie, June still feels unfulfilled.
